THE 17TH CHINESE BRIDGE COMPETITION IN LATVIA ——Teenagers and Children Division

With the support of “Chinese Bridge Fund” established by Hanban/Confucius Institute Headquarters, the 15th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition in Latvia, sponsored by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Latvia, organized by Confucius Institute at University of Latvia, co-organized by Confucius Centre at Stradins University, Riga Culture Secondary School, Riga No.34 Secondary School, Smiltene Secondary School, Jelgava Spidola State Gymnasium, Montessori Elementary School “Pētnieki”, Kraslava State Gymnasium, Jēkabpils State Gymnasium, Riga Daugavgriva Secondary School, Jaunmarupe Elementary School and Lavian Wushu Federation (Riga Wushu Kungfu Sports School), will be held on April 24th -25th, 2020.

 

  1. I. Purpose

The purpose of holding this competition is to promote Chinese language and culture in Latvia, to provide a platform for Chinese language learners in Latvia, to show their achievements in learning Chinese, to learn from and communicate with each other, to motivate their interests and enthusiasm to learn Chinese and to improve their understanding of Chinese language and culture. In addition, the competition aims at selecting the qualified candidates for the upcoming 13th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary Students which will be held in China.

III. Eligibility

Latvian teenagers and children whose mother tongue are not Chinese

  1. Classification of Participants and Requirements for Application

   Teenagers and children division will be divided into two divisions or six levels based on the contestants’ ages and their years of studying Chinese

(1) Primary Level: Students (with the age of 12-18 ), learning Chinese less than 1 year (including 1 year). Participants who have taken part in primary level group last year are not allowed to take part in primary level group this year, and have to apply for intermediate level or advanced level.

(2) Intermediate Level: Students (with the age of 12-18 ), learning Chinese more than 1 year. Participants who have taken part in intermediate level group last year are not allowed to take part in intermediate group this year, and have to apply for advanced level.

(3) Advanced Level: Students (with the age of 12-18 ), learning Chinese more than 3

years(including 3 years). Participants who have been to China because of getting the first or second prize in the Chinese Bridge Competition of senior group are not included, and for these participants, they have to wait for next year.

 

  1. Children Group

Pupils (under the age of 12, children who was born after 01/01/2007, including 01/01/2007)

(1) Primary Level: Pupils (under the age of 12) , learning Chinese less than 1 year (including 1 year) Participants who have taken part in primary level group last year are not allowed to take part in primary level group this year, and have to apply for intermediate level or advanced level.

  • Intermediate Level: Pupils (under the age of 12) , learning Chinese more than 1 years,

Participants who have taken part in intermediate level group last year are not allowed to take part in intermediate group this year, and have to apply for advanced level.

(3) Advanced Level: Students (with the age of 12-18 ), learning Chinese more than 3 years(including 3 years).

(1) Self-introduction

(2) Making a Speech in Chinese (only for medium and advanced level of teenagers division; without manuscript, 2-3 minutes): It should be referred to the knowledge of Chinese language and China’s culture and situation, etc.

(3) Chinese Talent Show: It might be one of talents showed, which should be referred to China’s songs, dances, folk arts, musical instruments, calligraphy, painting, paper-cutting and Kung Fu, etc. The contestants also can show their native folk culture making use of one of Chinese Talents)

(4) Answering the Question(s) on the Spot (only for advanced level of teenagers division; related to question fixed in advance): To test the contestants’ mastery of Chinese language and Chinese culture and situation

Notes: ① Relevant references and reviewing materials will be published on the websites of each registry; ② The content of Chinese Talent Show can be relevant to Chinese language and culture. For talent show, contestant can bring partners, but every contestant should have an independent talent show, which means one cooperative performance can’t be talent show for two contestants.

(2). Children Group

VIII. Final Competition

  1. Time: April 24th-25th，2020
  2. Place: At the Small Auditorium (on the Second Floor) of main building at University of

Latvia.

  3. The first prize, the second prize and the third prize will be separately granted the Champion, Runner-up and Second Runner-up for each level in final competition (18 in total), the superior prizes will be given to the rest of the participants in the final competition. All the recipients of the prizes will be rewarded with trophies and certificates.

2 The champion and runner-up(Teenager who was born before 01/01/2005, including 01/01/2005)of the advanced level in Teenagers Division will be qualified to go to China for taking part in the 13th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary Students as the representatives of Latvia. Their expenses including international travel, accommodation and travel insurance for competition will be undertaken by Chinese Government. In addition, they can acquire 2020/2021 Confucius Institute Scholarship issued by Chinese government for one semester. However, the person(s) who participated in the similar competition earlier in China won’t be able to attend to the competitions mentioned above as the same identity.

在中国国家汉办（HANBAN）所设“汉语桥”基金支持下，拉脱维亚第十七届“汉语桥”中小学生中文比赛决赛将由中国驻拉脱维亚大使馆主办，拉脱维亚大学孔子学院承办，斯特拉京什大学中国研究中心、里加文化中学、里加第34中学、斯密尔提恩中学、叶尔加瓦斯比杜拉中学、蒙特梭利探索小学、克拉斯拉瓦中学、叶卡布皮尔斯中学、里加道加瓦河口中学、新马露白小学、拉脱维亚武术协会（里加武术功夫体育学校）协办，并于2020年4月24-25日举行。

 

一、比赛目的

本次比赛旨在促进汉语和中华文化在拉脱维亚的传播和推广，为拉青少年学生提供一个展示汉语能力、互相学习和交流的平台，以激励拉学生学习汉语的热情和兴趣，增进其对中国语言和中华文化的理解，并为在中国即将举行的第十三届“汉语桥”世界中学生中文比赛选送优秀人才，争取获得优异成绩。

居住在拉脱维亚的非华裔青少年

四、比赛组别及报名条件

本次中小学组比赛根据参赛者年龄和学习汉语年限分为两个组六个级别。

一、中学生组

1.初级：在校中学生（12-18周岁），学习汉语1年以下的学习者，去年参加过汉语桥初级组比赛的，今年不能再报名初级组，需报名中级或高级组。

  • 中级：在校中学生（12-18周岁），学习汉语1年以上的学习者，去年参加过汉语桥中级组比赛的，今年不能再报名中级组，需报名高级组。
  • 高级：在校中学生（12-18周岁），学习汉语3年以上的学习者, 去年因参加汉语桥高级组比赛而代表拉脱维亚到中国参加或观摩汉语桥比赛的选手，需等到明年才能继续报名参赛。其他选手今年可以报名参赛。

 

二、小学生组

在校小学生（12周岁以下，即2008年1月1日及之后出生的孩子）

1.初级：在校小学生，学习汉语1年以下的学习者，去年参加过汉语桥初级组比赛的，今年不能再报名初级组，需报名中级或高级组。

  • 中级：在校小学生，学习汉语1年以上的学习者，去年参加过汉语桥中级组比赛的，今年不能再报名中级组，需报名高级组。
  • 高级：在校小学生，学习汉语3年以上的学习者,以及去年参加过汉语桥高级组比赛的选手。

五、比赛内容

（一）总体要求

1.自我介绍：介绍自己的个人情况。

2.主题演讲(仅限中学中级组和高级组)：要求脱稿；内容涉及汉语知识、中国文化和国情知识等。

3.才艺展示：内容涉及中国歌曲、舞蹈、曲艺、乐器、书法、绘画、剪纸、武术等；参赛者也可用中华才艺展示其母语国民俗文化。

4.现场问答（仅限中学高级组）：内容涉及汉语语言运用能力和中华文化知识（含汉语知识、中国文化和国情知识）。

九、奖励办法

1.决赛时各小组分别评出一、二、三等奖（合计18名）以及优秀奖若干名；获奖者将获奖品及证书。

2.中学生高级组第一、二名(年龄必须在15周岁以上，即2005年1月1日及之后出生的孩子)将分别代表拉脱维亚前往中国参加第十三届“汉语桥”世界中学生中文比赛；赴华参赛选手相关费用由中国政府承担，并有机会获得由中国国家汉办提供的2020/2021年度为期一学期孔子学院奖学金，但往届参赛选手不得以同一身份赴华参赛。
