February 19th is the traditional Chinese Lantern Festival. It is also the last day of Chinese celebration of the Lunar New Year. The teachers and students of the Confucius Classroom at Riga Cultural Secondary School performed this activity in a festive atmosphere.

At the beginning of the activity, the Chinese teacher taught the students to cover the dough and make dumplings. The Chinese teacher added carrot juice, spinach juice, and red cabbage juice to the noodles to make orange, green, and red dough. The students are very enthusiastic and have studied this very seriously. After the study, the students began to “work.” The division of labor is clear. Some do the dough of the noodles and the others make the dumplings. And they have a smooth cooperation. Considering that students like sweets, in addition to the meat stuffing, the teacher also advises students to make sugar dumplings, and the students are very excited about it. The Chinese teacher cooked the dumplings made by the students in three ways: steaming, boiling and frying. The students were very happy after eating the dumplings they made by themselves. After the event, they expressed their interest in the event.

The main purpose of this dumplings activity is to let students experience the Chinese traditional festivals and traditional culture by making authentic Chinese cuisine by themselves , so that they can deepen their understanding of Chinese festival culture. During the activity, the students carefully studied the techniques of making dumplings, and made full use of their imagination to design a variety of interesting dumplings, such as petal dumplings, smiley dumplings, and cat-head dumplings. Through this activity, teachers and students have more communication. And students have increased their interest in Chinese culture. They hope to increase such activities related to Chinese culture in the future. The activity of making dumplings to celebrate the Lantern Festival is held successfully in Riga Culture Secondary School.
