November 18, 2018 is the 100th anniversary of Latvia’s independence. Volunteer Chinese teacher Che Junchi and students in the Chinese lesson of the Latvian University of Life Science and Technology celebrated this great event in Chinese way.

Local time on November 14th – 15th , the volunteer Chinese teacher invited students in Chinese beginners group and intermediate group to experience the Chinese Calligraphy. The volunteer Chinese teacher first introduced the origin, development and the change from complexity and simplicity of the Chinese character. Then he introduced the cultural common sense about Chinese Calligraphy——The Four Treasures of Study (Writing brush, ink stick, rice paper and ink slab). With the reviewing of the stroke of Chinese character, students learned how to use writing brush to write those strokes. In the end, they wrote down “拉脱维亚生日快乐”(Happy birthday, Latvia) to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Latvia’s independence.

This was the first time that students celebrate the Latvia’s Independence Day in Chinese way. Students said that it is very interesting to write “Happy birthday, Latvia” in Chinese character to celebrate the big events, they not only experienced the Chinese Calligraphy, but also learned how to express the birthday wishes in Chinese. They are looking forward having more opportunities to learn Chinese Calligraphy.
