The CPPCC Delegation Visited Confucius Institute at Latvia University









Local time at July 5th 2018, Zhang Qingli, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, led a delegation to visit LUCI.The meeting was held in the Senate Hall at the main building of the University. Mr. Sun Yinglai, Counselor of the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China at Latvia, Mr. Indrikis Muiznieks, Rector of University of Latvia, Mr. Janis Ikstens, Deputy Rector of University of Latvia, Chairman of Board of Confucius Institute at University of Latvia, Mr. Peteris Pildegovics, Latvian Director of LUCI, Mr. Shang Quanyu, Chinese Director of LUCI, Chinese teachers and students of LUCI attended the meeting.

Vice Chairman Zhang Qingli stressed that Confucius Institute is a link of non-governmental exchanges, a key in the construction of the Belt and Road, and a catalyst for the cultural compatibility of people of both sides. He hoped that the young people of the two countries could continue to exchange their new ideas and contribute to the building of Sino-Latvian relations.

Mr. Indrikis Muiznieks extended a warm welcome to Vice President Zhang Qingli and his delegation. He highly praised LUCI for the contribution in cultivating Chinese language talents, and hoped that the Confucius Institute would continue to deepen the cultural exchanges between the two countries.

Mr. Janis Ikstens praised Professor Peteris Pildegovics for his outstanding achievements and efforts by quoting the proverb “Tall trees cast long shadows”. He pointed out that the new era of Chinese language teaching at the University of Latvia is inseparable from the painstaking efforts of Professor Pildegovics.

To express his gratitude, Professor Pildegovics presented Vice Chairman Zhang Qingli with his carefully compiled Latvian-Chinese learning dictionary. Mr. Shang Quanyu also introduced the basics of LUCI and LUCI’s achievement praised by Latvian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He promised that LUCI will always remember the mission, to be the most powerful link in spreading Chinese culture.

Chinese teacher Ms. Jana Danica and one student shared their surprising gains during Chinese teaching and learning process by attaching their own stories. Chinese learners also showed their learning outcomes to Vice President Zhang and the delegation through a variety of talent shows, such as singing Chinese pop songs, playing Chinese allegro and performing Latvian traditional folk songs.
