October 3th, 2017, the day before Chinese Mid-Autumn festival. Students and their Chinese teacher from Confucius classroom in Riga Culture Secondary School affiliated to the University of Latvia celebrated the Mid-Autumn Festival together.

The Chinese language course in Riga Culture Secondary school is for students from grade ten to grade twelve. Grade ten is beginners, grade eleven is intermediate level, and grade twelve is high level. The first lesson is for grade ten. Since they are beginners, teacher introduced Mid-Autumn festival in detail with pictures and videos to students, including the date of Mid-Autumn festival, Chinese lunar calendar, the meaning of the festival name, the origin and the customs. Through those, students grasped that the affection of family was deeply rooted in Chinese culture. As for grade eleven and grade twelve who already have had a certain understanding of Mid-Autumn Festival, teacher adopted a prompt way to help students recall the relevant cultural knowledge of the Mid-Autumn festival. In addition, teacher also prepared different classroom activities for students according to different teaching emphases of different grades. Grade ten focuses on pronunciation teaching, so teacher taught them a Chinese song about Mid-Autumn festival. Grade eleven focuses on Chinese character teaching, so teacher taught them characters relevant to Mid-Autumn festival. Grade twelve focuses on Chinese culture teaching, so teacher prepared a lantern riddle-guessing game for them. Each grade had fun while learning, and everyone was very happy. At the end of the lessons, students and teacher savored the moon cake, tasted green tea and talked about the Mid-Autumn Festival together in the music of “Our moon is bound to be round”, and the camera recorded these good times.

Through these lessons, Grade ten knew that there was a Chinese festival named the Mid-Autumn Festival, got to know the Mid-Autumn Festival, and loved this special festival. Grade eleven and grade twelve enjoyed the Mid-Autumn Festival and the delicious moon-cake one more time. After the lessons, students expressed great expectations for the Mid-Autumn Festival next year.
