THE 17TH CHINESE BRIDGE COMPETITION IN LATVIA ——Teenagers Division关于举办拉脱维亚第十七届“汉语桥”中文比赛的通知 ——中学生组

With the support of “Chinese Bridge Fund” established by Center for Language Education and Cooperation, the 17th “Chinese Bridge”—Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students in Latvia, sponsored by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Latvia, organized by Confucius Institute at University of Latvia, co-organized by Riga Cultures Secondary School, Riga Secondary School No.34, Kraslava Secondary School, Jēkabpils State Gymnasium, Riga Daugavgriva Secondary School, Riga Secondary School No.64, Riga Secondary School No.13, Riga Secondary School No.40, Riga Secondary School No.45, Montessori Elementary School “Pētnieki” will be held on April 25th, 2024（Date Updated).

I. Purpose

This event aims to provide a stage for Latvian secondary students learning Chinese to demonstrate their Chinese ability, create a platform for mutual learning and communication, stimulate their enthusiasm and interest in learning Chinese, and enhance their understanding of Chinese and Chinese culture. In addition, the competition aims at selecting the qualified candidates for the upcoming 17th “Chinese Bridge” —Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students which will be held in China.

III. Eligibility

Non-Chinese Latvian teenagers living in Latvia with the nationality of Latvia, whose mother tongue is not Chinese

IV.Classification of Participants and Requirements for Application

 Teenagers division will be divided into three levels based on the contestants’ ages and their years of studying Chinese.

(1) Primary Level: Learning Chinese less than 1 year (including 1 year). Contestants who have taken part in primary level group last year are not allowed to take part in primary level group this year, and have to apply for intermediate level or advanced level.

(2) Intermediate Level: Learning Chinese more than 1 year. Contestants who have taken part in intermediate level group last year are not allowed to take part in intermediate group this year, and have to apply for advanced level.

(3) Advanced Level: Learning Chinese more than 3 years (including 3 years). Contestants who have studied Chinese for more than 3 years, as well as contestants who participated in the Competition for Advanced Level last year. In principle, the previous global finalists (the champions of the senior group of the Latvia Division last year) cannot participate in the competition for two consecutive sessions.

V.Contents of Competition

  1. General Requirements

(1) Self-introduction;

(2) Making a Speech in Chinese (only for Intermediate and advanced level of Teenagers division; without manuscript): It should be referred to the knowledge of Chinese language and China’s culture and situation, etc.;

(3) Chinese Talent Show: It might be one of talents show, which should be referred to China’s songs, dances, folk arts, musical instruments, calligraphy, painting, paper-cutting and Kung Fu, etc. The contestants can also show their native folk culture making use of one of Chinese Talents;

(4) Q&A (only for advanced level of teenagers division; related to question fixed in advance): To test the contestants’ mastery of Chinese language and Chinese culture and situation

VII. Competition Arrangement

  1. Time: April 25th, 2024（Date Updated). The detailed check-in times for different divisions will be informed to contestants in the reply email to the registration email.
  2. Location: Small auditorium on the second floor of the main building of the University of Latvia

VIII. Method of Judgment

The results of the competition will be announced on the official Facebook of the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia and the official website of the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia on April 26. Please check it yourself.

 IX. Award

  1. The first prize, the second prize and the third prize will be separately granted the Champion, Runner-up and Second Runner-up for each level in final competition (9in total), the superior prizes will be given to the rest of the participants in the final competition. All the recipients of the prizes will be rewarded with trophies and certificates.
  2. The champion(students who is 12-18 years old, born from 2006.01.01 to 2012.12.31)of the advanced level will be recommended to participate in the global finals of the 16th “Chinese Bridge”—Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign Secondary School Students. If he/she passes the qualification review of the competition organizing committee, he/she will become the finalists and represent Latvia in the global finals. If the finalist is under the age of 18, he/she can be accompanied by a team leader teacher as a guardian to go to China with authorization  and has the opportunity to win Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship for one semester or one academic year in 2024/2025 and round-trip air tickets provided by Center for Language Education and Cooperation (the specific award content is linked to the ranking of the global finals).

在中国中外语言交流合作中心所设“汉语桥”基金支持下，拉脱维亚第十七届“汉语桥”中小学生中文比赛决赛将由中国驻拉脱维亚大使馆主办，拉脱维亚大学孔子学院承办，里加文化中学、里加第34中学、克拉斯拉瓦中学、叶卡布皮尔斯中学、里加道加瓦河口中学、里加64中学、斯米尔提恩中学、里加13中学，里加40中学，里加45中学协办，并于2024年4月25日举行(日期已更新）。

一、比赛目的

本次活动旨在为拉脱维亚学习中文的青年学生提供一个展示中文能力的舞台，打造互相学习和交流的平台，激励其学习中文的热情和兴趣，增进其对中文和中华文化的理解，并为在中国即将举行的第十七届“汉语桥”世界中学生中文比赛选送优秀人才，争取获得优异成绩。

三、参赛对象

居住在拉脱维亚的非华裔拉脱维亚籍青少年，本人及父母母语非中文。

四、比赛组别及报名条件

在校中学生，12-18周岁，即2006年1月1日到2012年12月31日出生的学生。

1.初级：学习汉语1年以下的学习者，去年参加过汉语桥初级组比赛的，今年不能再报名初级组，需报名中级或高级组。

2.中级：学习汉语1年以上的学习者，去年参加过汉语桥中级组比赛的，今年不能再报名中级组，需报名高级组。

3.高级：学习汉语3年以上的学习者, 以及去年参加过汉语桥中学生组高级组比赛的选手。上届全球决赛选手(拉脱维亚赛区高级组冠军)原则上不可连续两届参加比赛。

 

五、比赛内容

   （一）总体要求

1.自我介绍：介绍自己的个人情况。

2.自由演讲或主题演讲(仅限中级组和高级组)：要求脱稿；内容涉及汉

语知识、中国文化和国情知识等。

3.才艺展示：内容涉及中国歌曲、舞蹈、曲艺、乐器、书法、绘画、剪纸、

武术等；参赛者也可用中华才艺展示其母语国民俗文化。

4.现场问答（仅限高级组）：内容涉及汉语语言运用能力和中华文化知识（含

汉语知识、中国文化和国情知识）。

九、奖励办法

1.决赛时各小组分别评出一、二、三等奖（合计9名）以及优秀奖若干名；获奖者将获奖品及证书。

2.中学生高级组第一名(年龄必须在12周岁-18周岁，即2006年1月1日到2012年12月31日出生的学生)将获得被推荐参加第十六届“汉语桥”世界中学生中文比赛全球决赛资格。如通过大赛组委会资格审定，将成为决赛选手，代表拉脱维亚赴中国参加全球决赛。该决赛选手若未满18周岁，可经授权配1名领队老师作为监护人陪同赴华，并有机会获得由中国中外语言交流合作中心提供的2024/2025年度为期一学期或一学年赴华进修汉语的国际中文教师奖学金及往返机票(具体奖励内容与全球总决赛名次挂钩)。
