THE 19TH CHINESE BRIDGE COMPETITION IN LATVIA ——Adults and College Students Division

With the support of “Chinese Bridge Fund” established by Center for Language Education and Cooperation, the 19th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition in Latvia, sponsored by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Latvia, organized by Confucius Institute at University of Latvia, co-organized by the Faculty of Humanities at  University of Latvia, Riga Technical University, Transport and Telecommunication Institute, Rezekne Academy of Technologies, Daugavpils University, Ventspils University of Applied Sciences, Vidzeme University of Applied Sciences and Latvian Academy of Culture , will be held on May 14th, 2022.

Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, in order to protect the health of the contestants and staffs, this session of the Chinese Bridge will be held in the form of online competitions, contestants are required to submit speech videos and talent performance videos, some of groups need to participate online Q&A.

  1. I. Purpose

The purpose of holding this competition is to promote Chinese language and culture in Latvia, to provide a platform for Chinese language learners in Latvia, to show their achievements in learning Chinese, to learn from and communicate with each other, to motivate their interests and enthusiasm to learn Chinese and to improve their understanding of Chinese language and culture. In addition, the competition aims at selecting the qualified candidates for the upcoming 21th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students which will be held in China.

III. Eligibility

Latvian adults and college students whose mother tongue are not Chinese

  1. Classification of Participants and Requirements for Application

Adults and college students division will be divided into three levels based on the contestants’ ages and their years of studying Chinese.

  1. Primary Level: Undergraduates in enrollment or non-students (with the ages of 18-30) or Adults (without age limit), learning Chinese less than 1 year (including 1 year). Contestants who have taken part in primary level group last year are not allowed to take part in primary level group this year and have to apply for intermediate level or advanced level;
  2. Intermediate Level: Undergraduates in enrollment or non-students (with the ages of 18-30) or Adults (without age limit), learning Chinese more than 1 year. Contestants who have taken part in intermediate level group last year are not allowed to take part in intermediate group this year and have to apply for advanced level;
  3. Advanced Level: Undergraduates in enrollment or non-students (with the ages of 18-30) or Adults (without age limit), learning Chinese more than 3 years (including 3 years). Contestants who participated in the national finals last year, need to wait until next year to continue to register for the competition. Other players can sign up for the competition this year.

  6. Self-introduction: to introduce your basic information and hobbies, etc.
  7. Topic Speech in Chinese (without manuscript): The speech should be referred to the knowledge of Chinese language and China’s culture and situation, etc.
  8. Chinese Talent Show: It must be related to one of the following talents — China’s songs, dances, folk arts, musical instruments, calligraphy, painting, paper-cutting and Kung Fu, etc. The contestants also can show their native folk culture making use of one of Chinese Talents)
  9. Online Q&A (related to question fixed in advance): To test the contestants’ mastery of Chinese language and Chinese culture and situation.

Requirement:

① Video of Self-introducing & Topic Speech:

Horizontal screen recording;

Speech are required to be completed (It is not allowed to watch the script while recording);

No post-editing;

Please ensure that the contestants and their voice are clear in the video;

The file should be named “group + level + surname & name + speech”, for example, “Adults and College Students + Advanced Level + Bete Diana + Speech”.

② Video of Talent Performance:

Horizontal screen recording;

Can be post-editing;

Please ensure that the contestants and their voice are clear in the video;

The file should be named “group + level + surname & name + Talent”, for example:

“Adults and College Students + Advanced Level + Bete Diana + Talent”.

Videos above are required to send to the Chinese teacher/instructor of the participant before 19:00 on May 10. The Chinese teachers/instructor will submit the videos to tangheng202109@163.com , those who do not submit within the time limit will be considered as abandoned

③ Online Q&A: On May 14, the organizing committee is going to use ZOOM to organize Online Q&A. Contestants need to enter online answering room according to the specified time, and then select and answer the questions in order according to the order of the contestants announced in advance.

VII. Method of Judgment

The organizing committee will give a comprehensive score based on the speech videos, talent videos submitted by the contestants and online Q&A. The results of the competition will be announced on the Facebook and Official Website of the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia on May 16.

VIII. Award

  1. The first prize, the second prize and the third prize will be separately granted the Champion, Runner-up and Second Runner-up for each level in final competition (9 in total), the superior prizes will be given to the rest of the participants in the final competition. All the recipients of the prizes will be rewarded with trophies and certificates.
  2. The Champion (College student who was born from 01/01/1992 to 01/01/2004)of the advanced level in Adults and College Students Division will be recommended to participate in the global finals of the 21st “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students. If he/she passes the qualification review of the competition organizing committee, he/she will become the finalist and represent Latvia in the global finals. In addition, he/she can acquire 2022/2023 Confucius Institute Scholarship issued by Chinese government for one semester.

关于举办拉脱维亚第十九届“汉语桥”中文比赛的通知——大学生成人组

在中国中外语言交流合作中心所设“汉语桥”基金支持下,拉脱维亚第十九届“汉语桥”大学生中文比赛将由中国驻拉脱维亚大使馆主办,拉脱维亚大学孔子学院承办,拉脱维亚大学人文学院、里加工业大学、交通与电信大学、雷泽克内大学、道加瓦皮尔斯大学、文茨皮尔斯大学、维泽梅大学、拉脱维亚文化学院协办,并于2022年5月14日举行。

由于新冠疫情的影响,为保证参赛选手和工作人员的身体健康,经研究,本届汉语桥将采用线上比赛的形式举行,参赛选手需提交演讲视频和才艺表演视频,个别组别需在线参与问答环节,最终以综合实力为标尺决定比赛名次。

一、比赛目的

本次活动旨在促进汉语和中华文化在拉脱维亚的传播和推广,为拉青年学生提供一个展示汉语能力、互相学习和交流的平台,以激励拉学生学习汉语的热情和兴趣,增进其对中国语言和中华文化的理解,并为在中国即将举行的第二十一届“汉语桥”世界大学生中文比赛选送优秀人才,争取获得优异成绩。

居住在拉脱维亚的非华裔大学生及成人

四、比赛组别及报名条件

本次大学生成人组比赛根据参赛者学习汉语年限分为三个级别:

1.初级:在校大学生(18-30周岁)或社会成人(年龄不限), 学习汉语1年以下的学习者,去年参加过汉语桥初级组比赛的,今年不能再报名初级组,需报名中级或高级组。

  • 中级:在校大学生(18-30周岁)或社会成人(年龄不限), 学习汉语1年以上的学习者,去年参加过汉语桥中级组比赛的,今年不能再报名中级组,需报名高级组。
  • 高级:在校大学生(18-30周岁)或社会成人(年龄不限), 学习汉语3年以上的学习者, 去年参加全国总决赛的选手,需等到明年才能继续报名参赛。其他选手今年可以报名参赛。

五、比赛内容

(一)总体要求

1.自我介绍+主题演讲(时间为2-3分钟,要求脱稿):内容涉及汉语知识、中国文化和国情知识等;

2.才艺展示:内容涉及中国歌曲、舞蹈、曲艺、乐器、书法、绘画、剪纸、武术等;参赛者也可用中华才艺展示其母语国民俗文化。

3.在线问答:内容涉及汉语语言运用能力和中华文化知识(含汉语知识、中国文化和国情知识);

具体要求:

①自我介绍+主题演讲视频要求:横屏录制,需脱稿,不可后期剪辑,保证人物和声音清楚,将文件命名为“组别+等级+姓名+演讲”,如:

“Adults and College Students+Advanced Level +Bete Diana+Speech”。

②才艺表演视频要求:横屏录制,可进行后期剪辑,保证人物和背景音乐清楚,将文件命名为“组别+等级+姓名+才艺”,如:

“Adults and College Students+Advanced Level +Bete Diana+Talent”。

上述两个视频请于5月10日19:00前发送至参赛者本人的指导老师指导老师将收集好的视频准确命名后发送至邮箱tangheng202109@163.com,逾期未提交者视为弃赛。

③在线问答:5月14日组委会将使用zoom组织在线问答,参赛选手按指定时间统一进入答题室,根据提前公布的选手顺序依次选择问题进行答题。

七、评分办法

组委会将根据选手提交的演讲视频、才艺视频和在线问答情况综合评分,比赛结果将于5月16日在拉脱维亚大学孔子学院官方Facebook及拉大孔院官网上公布,请选手自行查看。

八、奖励办法

1.决赛时大学成人组评出一、二、三等奖(合计9名)以及优秀奖若干名;获奖者将获奖品及证书;

2.大学成人(高级)组(年龄18-30岁,即1992年1月1日到2004年1月1日出生)第一名将获得被推荐参加第二十一届“汉语桥”世界大学生中文比赛全球决赛资格。如通过大赛组委会资格审定,将成为决赛选手,代表拉脱维亚参加全球决赛。并有机会获得由中外语言交流合作中心提供的2022/2023年度为期一学期孔子学院奖学金。
