Lecture and Performance of Chinese Tea Art and Painting — serial activities of the 10th anniversary of Confucius Institute at Latvia University –“CHINA-BALTIC BENCHMARK OF ART”

“In Chinese tea art, we can not fill the glass in order to show our respect and friendship for the guests.” Mrs, Zhang Donghui, the director of Confucius Institute at Vilniaus universitetas in Lithuania explained smilingly to all the audiences. On Octorber 3rd 2014, artists of the programme “CHINA-BALTIC BENCHMARK OF ART” went to Confucius Institute at Latvia University to show the students a splendid performace. Mr, Pildegovics, the director of Latvia side of Confucius Institute at Latvia University and Mr. Shang Quanyu, the director of Chinese side have attended the lecture together with students of Human Culture Institute at Latvia University. In the beautiful sound of Guqin (an instument in ancient China) , the lecture started. Two directors firstly made a speech to welcome the five artists and then in the first part, the potter, Mr. Li Jianshen played a short video to introduce the “Three Treasures” in Jingde Zhen — porcelain, tea and mud. The second part it’s the tea art performance which showed authentic Chinese tea and pleased all the audiences. In the third part, the painting and calligraphy artist, Mr. Sui Mou has painted a “Daji Tu”. In the picture, two vivid roosters implies happiness and good wishes (In Chinese, the pronounciation of rooster sounds like the pronounciation of happiness). The excellent shows have recieved a big hand from the audiences and they expressed that they have learned more about Chinese art especially porcelain, tea art and Chinese painting through this activity. Besides, they look forward to more activities to experience Chinese culture.
