Latvia’s second “Chinese Corner” in 2019 was successfully held

On the 4th of November in Riga, the University of Latvia Faculty of Humanities held another “Chinese corner” event. The event attracted a variety of Chinese language learning enthusiasts. That day the majority of attendees were learners with an intermediate and advanced level of Chinese, teachers from the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia, members of the Latvian Chinese Students Association, as well as international students from Riga Technical University. Using either Chinese or Latvian language, the participants exchanged their views on the latest events in both countries and shared their own experiences. Such an opportunity to practice Chinese and Latvian free of charge has been appreciated by both teachers and students. Unlike in a classroom, “Chinese Corner” emphasizes a relaxed and free communication environment and interaction. The participants got a chance to “activate” the vocabulary and grammar structures they had learned, and to experience a different sort of cross-cultural communication, which is a trend currently enjoying popularity in many countries. “Chinese corner” events have become a useful complement to the Confucius Institute.
