Farewell Party for Study-in-China Scholarship Students

August 27, 2014, the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia held a Confucius Institute and Chinese Government Study-in-China Scholarship students farewell party. Chinese Embassy ambassador Mr. Yang Guoqiang, Confucius Institute foreign side director Professor Peteris•Pildegovics, Confucius Institute Chinese side director Professor Shang Quanyu, Chinese teachers and students from Confucius Institute and other organization, foreign students and local overseas Chinese participate in this event.
13 scholarship students participate in the farewell part. They will soon start learning Chinese in four different universities in China. 8 of them will go to South China Normal University, 2 to Beijing Language and Culture University,2 to Tongji University and 1 to Shanxi University. What’s more, another 10 Government-Scholarship students have already been in China now for studying.
Confucius Institute both side directors host this party. At the very beginning, they introduce the participants. And then, Chinese Embassy ambassador Mr. Yang Guoqiang gives a passionate speech. He congratulates the scholarship winners for their good job, and gives several meaningful suggestions, and hopes that the students practice Chinese more in China and use it in real language environment. And then, he wishes the students have a great progress in studying and come back to Latvia with gains and contribute to the friendship of Latvia and China in the future.
After the speech of Ambassador Yang, two directors deliver their own speech. Professor Pildegovics and Professor Shang Quanyu share their learning and work experience in foreign country and ask the students to learn Chinese with efforts in a foreign country, experience the colorful Chinese culture and constantly enrich themselves.
The third part of the farewell party is a speech by Maria as a representative of Confucius Institute Scholarship students. At first, she expresses gratitude to Confucius Institute for providing such a valuable opportunity to go to China to learn Chinese. And then she introduce her experiences in learning Chinese fluently in Latvian and Chinese which triggering the agreement of other Chinese learners. She says, like other scholarship students, she also has a Chinese dream and she will strive to improve her Chinese proficiency in China, learn more about China, and build blocks for the friendship of Latvia and China.
After a speech of the representative of students, both the students and their parents raise some questions about learning Chinese in China. The ambassador and two deans patiently answer all the questions one by one. In addition, two deans also introduce some useful information of China to the scholarship students, which help them to study in a foreign country better. The students say that today they benefit a lot and solve a lot of puzzles, and deepen their understanding of China. What’s more, they are confident about the upcoming trip to China, and they would cherish this valuable opportunity, and not to betray this great trust.
