Mid-Autumn Festival Party Held by Confucius Institute

With continuous thunderous applause, 2014 Mid-Autumn Festival Party which is held by Confucius Institute begins at 17:00, 8th, September in the ceremony hall of Latvia University Academic Library.
More than 50 honored guests attend this big party and celebrate such delighted festival together, including Confucius Institute foreign side director Professor Peteris•Pildegovics, Confucius Institute Chinese side director Professor Shang Quanyu, Confucius Institute secretary Laura• Kregere, Chinese Embassy consular Mr. Zeng Fuhua, head of Latvia University Foreign Affair Department Mrs. Alina Grzhibovska, Professor Agita from Latvia University Faculty of Humanities, head of the library Mrs. Venta Kocere, rector of Riga 68 Middle School Mrs. Larisa Goncarenko, Xinhua News reporter Mr. Guo Qun, teachers and students from Confucius Institute, foreign students and local overseas Chinese.
Host by new Chinese volunteer teacher Fang Siqi, the party begins with a passionate opening. And then, Confucius Institute foreign side director Professor Peteris•Pildegovics gives a speech both in Latvian and Chinese sharing his experiences about Mid-Autumn Festival, which drags the audiences into thought of Mid-Autumn Festival. After that, Confucius Institute Chinese side director Professor Shang Quanyu gives a humorous and brilliant speech talking about some idioms about autumn and sharing three fairy tales about Mid-Autumn Festival.
To help the students and other audiences know further about Mid-Autumn Festival, new Chinese volunteer teacher Cheng Xue introduces the source and tradition about Mid-Autumn Festival with some pictures and understandable words. What’s more, she also sets some questions to enhance the audiences’ understanding.
The performances of the party are also very enjoyable. First of all, three new Chinese volunteer teacher come to the stage. With the soft music of Chinese traditional bamboo flute, the Chinese calligraphy show ‘Hua Hao Yue Yuan’(beautiful flowers and round moon) and Chinese paper cutting show ‘Hong Shuang Xi’(red double happiness) take place at the same time, which arise many praises from the audiences. Then, Mr. He Qing who is husband of Chinese teacher from Latvia University Miss Wang Qiongzi sings a Chinese R&B ‘Jia Xing Zeng’(fake monk) which enhance the exciting atmosphere. What’s more, Chinese foreign student Zhen Cheng also sings a wonderful song. After that, all the volunteer teachers teach the students of Latvia University to write Chinese calligraphy ‘Zhong Qiu Jie’ (mid-autumn festival). The students are very interested in this. At the end of the party, Confucius Institute foreign side director Professor Peteris•Pildegovics gives a summarizing speech which becomes the highlight of the party.
After the party, all the participants enjoy the delicious Chinese food provided by Chinese restaurant, and taste moon cake which is traditional food in Mid-Autumn Festival.
In the year of the 10th anniversary of Confucius Institute, this party is a good chance for Latvian people to know more about Chinese traditional culture. Now all the audiences know Mid-Autumn Festival and moon cake. By this party, they begin to understand more about the good wishes of ‘Dan yuan ren changjiu ,qianli gong chanjuan’(may all the relationship forever, no matter where we are, we are looking at the same moon).
