Spring Festival Gala Show in Riga No.34 Secondary School

Local time at 14:00 on January 27th in Latvia, Spring Festival Gala Show had been held in Riga No.34 Secondary School.

Chinese ambassador in LatviaMr. Huang Yong, Director of the Confucius Institute Professor Shang Quanyu, Latvian Director of the Confucius Institute Professor Peteris Pildegovics, Vice Principal and Chinese teacher from Riga Culture School, Chinese teacher Evita, Chinese Volunteer teacher Wu Wei and other Chinese volunteer teachers from Confucius Institute, teachers and students from Riga No.34 Secondary School were invited to attend the event.

Before the Gala Show startedheadmaster Mrs. Natalia Rogaleva gave a welcome speech to students, teachers and invited guests. Chinese ambassador in Latvia, Mr. Huang Yong delivered a speech at the invitation of Natalia Rogaleva, who fully affirmed the achievements of the Chinese teaching in Riga 34 Secondary School and encouraged Chinese teachers and volunteers to make continuous efforts to improve Chinese teaching in primary and secondary schools. In the meanwhile, another lively speech was gave by Director of the Confucius Institute Professor Shang Quanyu and Latvian Director of the Confucius Institute Professor Peteris Pildegovics. They congratulate Riga 34 Middle School for becoming the fourth Confucius Classroom of the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia. At the same time, they commended the Confucius Classroom in Riga 34 Secondary School for its good cultural activities. The Chinese New Year Party has become a tradition, and they hope that we can redouble our efforts, becoming better and better.

After the guests’ speeches, Wu Wei, a volunteer teacher from the Confucius Institute, also expressed her own teaching thoughts and wishes for the New Year. Riga 34 Secondary School the “Golden Rooster Spring Festival” Chinese New Year celebration of the chicken had started.

First of all, seventh, eighth, ninth and twelfth grade students had made short sketches for the performance of the Spring Festival, they vividly performed of what will Chinese youth do during the Spring Festival, so that the presence of teachers and students will have a preliminary understanding of the Spring Festival. Next, the choir performances Latvian folk song “Where Does My Chicken Goes”, which is adapted into Chinese. In the cheerful atmosphere, student Maksim given a sonorous and powerful martial arts performance and the Chinese jingle slip by the ninth-grade student Marsha. In addition, the Confucius Institute volunteer teacher Pan Bin also performed a poetry recitation with emotion, the audience applause loudly.

Finally, the Spring Festival celebrations slowly coming to end with the traditional Chinese dance “Hundred Hands” and the powerful Latvian Martial Arts Association performance. After the performance, guests and students moved to the small hall, watching the carefully prepared Chinese teaching video, while tasting delicious snacks, enjoying Chinese Spring Festival in a warm atmosphere.

The event create a warm atmosphere of the Spring Festival, subtle to let students understand China, understand Chinese culture, enriching the students extracurricular  life. At the same time, it also promoted the cultural exchanges between China and Latvia, and enhance the friendship between the people of China and Latvia.
