The Workshop of Experiencing Chinese Cultural—— Peking Opera Mask Painting

Local time November 14th at 1:00 pm, a wonderful workshop of experiencing Peking Opera mask painting was opened in the Art Museum Riga Bourse. The experience was jointly organized by the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia and the Art Museum Riga Bourse. Two Chinese teachers Hu Yue and Lin Jie from the Confucius Institute hosted the event with the assistant of Kristine from the Art Museum and another two teachers from the Confucius Institute. The number of participants was more than forty.

At the beginning of the activity, the host explained the meaning of main colors red, yellow, white, black, purple, green and silver in Peking Opera mask to the participants. Different types of Peking Opera masks show different characters, and represent different roles. For example, the color red represents loyalty and bravery. After the brief introduction, participants began to paint their favorite masks. There are two options for participants: one was to color the blank Peking Opera mask, and another was to draw their favorite masks, and then color them. Most of them chose the later. Most of the participants are teenagers, as well as a lot of children.

The workshop of experiencing Peking Opera mask painting was full of happiness and harmony. At the end of the activity, many participants took photos with their works.
