CEEC Symposium on Sinology Research and Chinese Language Pedagogy  was held in University of Latvia

On November 5th, the Central and Eastern European Symposium on Sinology Research and Chinese Language Pedagogy was held in University of Latvia. The symposium is hosted by Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban, organized by University of Latvia and Confucius Institute at University of Latvia. More than 70 participants participated in the symposium, including 43 Sinologists from 16 CEEC countries, 5 experts form China, and 20 guests.

The theme of the symposium is One Belt One Road and Talent Cultivation in Sinology Research. Sub-topics include One Belt One Road and Talent Cultivation in Sinology Research, The Function of Confucius Institutes in Sinology Research, and CEEC Sinology Research and Chinese Language Pedagogy: History and Current Situation. 48 specialists were divided into 2 groups, discussed about the 3 topics and shared their research achievement. Some specialists took the perspective of ancient Chinese research and teaching and elaborated its impact on modern Chinese teaching. Other experts analyzed the positioning of Confucius institutes and talked about the feasibility of future transformation. With the economic cooperation and culture exchange situation considered, specialists compared and analyzed the merits in Sinologist training schemes in various institutes, pointed out the difficulties, and put forward suggestions for improvement.

After group seminars, experts from Albania, Hungary, Macedonia, Bulgaria and China debriefed their discussion and made conclusive addresses. The symposium came to a successful conclusion. Later that day, Professor Pildgovics and 17 other Sinologists were received by Premier Li Keqiang who was in Latvia participating 16+1 China-CEEC Summit and other 16 Prime Ministers from 16 countries, and took photos together.

2016 is a year of significance. The 5th China-Central and Eastern European Countries Leadership Summit is held in Latvia. It is also the year for the 25th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relation between Latvia and China, and the 5th anniversary of Confucius Institute at University of Latvia. In order to deepen education and cultural exchange and cooperation and promote academic exchange between China and Central and Eastern European Countries, the Confucius Institute Headquarters entrusts the Confucius Institute at University of Latvia to organize the Central and Eastern European Countries Symposium on Sinology Research and Chinese Language Pedagogy. The purpose of the symposium is to better promote and deepen Sinology Research and Chinese Language Pedagogy in these countries. In spite of his busy schedule, Premier Li Keqiang met Sinologist delegates from 16 CEEC, which will definitely promote Sinology Research and Chinese Language Pedagogy and development of Confucius institutes in these countries.
