LUCI Held 2016–2017 Work Arrangement Meeting and New Semester Opening Ceremony

At 14:00 on September 2nd, 2016, the new semester work arrangement meeting of Confucius Institute of University of Latvia (LUCI) was held in Academic Library of University of Latvia. Prof. Peteris Pidegovics, Latvian-side Director of LUCI, Prof. Shang Quanyu, Chinese-side Director of LUCI, Laura Zatina, LUCI secretary, Chinese Teachers Ms. Ya Na, Ms. Dong Fang and Mr. Pan Junwu, Volunteer Chinese Teachers Zeng Qingjun, Pan Bin, Zeng Rong, Lin Jie, Wu Tiantian, Wu Wei, Sun Xiao, Zhao Qian, a total of 14 people attended the meeting. At the meeting, Professor Shang Quanyu and Laura introduced this year’s work arrangements to the participants and introduced “Job Responsibilities for Volunteer Chinese Teachers” and other related documents to the new volunteers, and discussed the new semester course setup with the teachers and volunteers.

At 18:00 on September 5th, the 2016—2017 LUCI new semester opening ceremony was held at the main building of the University of Latvia. Prof. Shang Quanyu, Chinese-side Director of LUCI, the Confucius Institute Chinese teachers and students in the classes of all levels, totaling 90 people attended the opening ceremony. Professor Shang Quanyu introduced to the students the development of LUCI and the major events planed by LUCI this year, and invited all the students to participate in the upcoming activities. The LUCI Secretary Laura explained to the participants the course arrangement, Chinese Bridge Competition, Chinese Proficiency Test (HSK), summer camps and other events about to be held. Zeng Rong, Pan Bin and Zeng Qingjun, volunteer teachers of Children’s Classes, Beginner’ Classes for Adult, Intermediate and Advanced Classes for Adult also introduced the course arrangement and teaching plan to the students.

The student number enrolled this year has greatly increased over last year, reaching close to 90. Students are of different careers: students, lawyers, teachers, etc, yet they have a common characteristic: having a great interest in Chinese and hoping to learn Chinese and understand more about China.
