Prof. Pildegovics Won the 10th Special Book Award of China

On August 23, the Awarding Ceremony of the 10th Special Book Award of China was held in Beijing. Prof. Peteris Pidegovics, Latvian-side Director of LUCI, received the award and attended the ceremony.

On August 22, Prof. Pildegovics attended the serial activity: 2016 Sino-Foreign Literature Translation & Publishing Seminar, together with scholars and experts from more than 30 countries in this line of work. On August 23, Prof. Pildegovics was met by national leaders at the Great Hall of the People. Later that day, the Awarding Ceremony of the 10th Special Book Award of China was held. Ms. Liu Yandong, Vice Premier of China awarded the trophies to the winners.

On his acceptance speech, Prof. Pildegovics shared his story of Chinese learning to the audiences. For more than 50 years, Prof. Pildegovics have made tremendous contributions in the cause of Chinese language teaching and promotion, as well as in establishing a good Sino-Latvia relation. Prof. Pildegovics, who is now 78 years old, has been met by many Chinese national leaders, and has won a Third-star Medal, the highest honor given by the Latvian government. Under the leadership of Prof. Pildegovics, the Confucius Institute at University of Latvia is on a rapid and prosperous track of development. He expressed that he would not stop, and he would continue to devote himself to strengthen the relationship between China and Latvia. On August 24, Prof. Pildegovics participated in the experts’ exchange meeting, and visited the Book Fair in ChinaInternationalExhibitionCenter.
