Together with the development of China, more and more people are interested in Chinese traditional culture. In Latvia, the amount of people interested in China, it’s culture and language, is increasing every year.

On the 24th of February, Laura Uzule, a reporter from Latvian Television attended a calligraphy class held in the classroom of the\ University of Latvia.

Calligraphy has always played a great role in the development of Chinese culture. To make students appreciate this magnificent form of art even more, the teacher Karina introduced the history of calligraphy, styles and the most famous calligraphers of China.

Right posture and holding of a brush are extremely important while learning calligraphy. Wrong posture can not only have a bad effect on your writing, but also can be harmful for your health.

After warming-up, the students started practicing different versions of Chinese character “dragon”. The most commonly seen calligraphy styles include: Seal Script, Clerical Script, Standard Script, Semi-Cursive and Running Script.Do You like the “dragons” we wrote?

The temper of every person is not the same, that’s why all the characters, written by different people are not alike. As the calligrapher Ouyang Zhongshi said:” The differences in the characters, written by different people, are like those in different people’s faces.”

The teacher really hopes that today’s class will make students fall in love with calligraphy, fall in love with Chinese Traditional Culture, fall in love with China!
