THE 23RD CHINESE BRIDGE COMPETITION IN LATVIA ——Adults and College Students Division / 关于举办拉脱维亚第二十三届“汉语桥”中文比赛的通知 ——大学成人组
With the support of “Chinese Bridge Fund” established by Center for Language Education and Cooperation, the 23rd “Chinese Bridge”—Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students in Latvia, sponsored by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in the Republic of Latvia, organized by Confucius Institute at University of Latvia, co-organized by the Faculty of Humanities at University of Latvia, Daugavpils University, Ventspils University of Applied Sciences, will be held on May 8th , 2026.
Purpose
This event aims to provide a stage for Latvian college students learning Chinese to demonstrate their Chinese ability, create a platform for mutual learning and communication, stimulate their enthusiasm and interest in learning Chinese, and enhance their understanding of Chinese and Chinese culture. In addition, the competition aims at selecting the qualified candidates for the upcoming 25th “Chinese Bridge” —Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students which will be held in China.

Eligibility
Non-Chinese Latvian college students and adults living in Latvia with the nationality of Latvia, whose mother tongue is not Chinese
Classification of Participants and Requirements for Application
Adults and college students division will be divided into three levels based on the contestants’ ages and their years of studying Chinese.
Primary Level: Undergraduates in enrollment or non-students (with the ages of 18-30) or Adults (without age limit), learning Chinese less than 1 year (including 1 year). Participants who have taken part in primary level group last year are not allowed to take part in primary level group this year and have to apply for intermediate level or advanced level.
Intermediate Level: Undergraduates in enrollment or non-students (with the ages of 18-30) or Adults (without age limit), learning Chinese more than 1 year. Participants who have taken part in intermediate level group last year are not allowed to take part in intermediate group this year and have to apply for advanced level.
Advanced Level: Undergraduates in enrollment or non-students (with the ages of 18-30) or Adults (without age limit), learning Chinese more than 3 years (including 3 years), as well as contestants who participated in the Competition for Advanced Level last year. In principle, the previous global finalists (the champions of the senior group of the Latvia Division last year) cannot participate in the competition for two consecutive sessions.
Contents of Competition
General Requirements
Self-introduction and Topic Speech in Chinese (2-3 minutes,without manuscript):The speech should be referred to the knowledge of Chinese language and China’s culture and situation, etc.
Chinese Talent Show: It must be related to one of the following talents — China’s songs, dances, folk arts, musical instruments, calligraphy, painting, paper-cutting and Kung Fu, etc. The contestants also can show their native folk culture making use of one of Chinese Talents
Answering the Question(s) on the Spot (related to question fixed in advance): To test the contestants’ mastery of Chinese language and Chinese culture and situation.

Competition Arrangement
Time: May 8, 2026 (morning).The detailed check-in times for different divisions will be informed to contestants in the reply email to the registration email.
Location: Small auditorium on the second floor of the main building of the University of Latvia

Method of Judgment
The results of the competition will be announced on the official Facebook of the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia and the official website of the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia on May 11. Please check it yourself.

Award
The first prize, the second prize and the third prize will be separately granted the Champion, Runner-up and Second Runner-up for each level in final competition (9 in total), the superior prizes will be given to the rest of the participants in the final competition. All the recipients of the prizes will be rewarded with trophies and certificates.
The champion (college students who is 18-30 years old, born from 1996.01.01 to 2008.12.31) of the advanced level will be recommended to participate in the global finals of the 25th “Chinese Bridge”—Chinese Proficiency Competition for Foreign College Students. If he/she passes the qualification review of the competition organizing committee, he/she will become the finalists and represent Latvia in the global finals. He/she has the opportunity to win Chinese Language Teachers Scholarship for one semester or one academic year in 2026/2027 and round-trip air tickets provided by Center for Language Education and Cooperation (the specific award content is linked to the ranking of the global finals). The runners-up (college students aged 18-30, adults born between January 1, 1996 and December 31, 2008) can go to watch the competition together. However, previous contestants are not allowed to participate or watch the competition in China with the same identity.

在中国中外语言交流合作中心所设“汉语桥”基金支持下，拉脱维亚第二十三届“汉语桥”大学生(成人)中文比赛将由中国驻拉脱维亚大使馆主办，拉脱维亚大学孔子学院承办,拉脱维亚大学人文学院、道加瓦皮尔斯大学、文茨皮尔斯大学等协办，并于2026年5月8日举行。
比赛目的
本次活动旨在为世界各国学习中文的青年学生提供一个展示中文能力的舞台，打造互相学习和交流的平台，激励其学习中文的热情和兴趣，增进其对中文和中华文化的理解。并为在中国即将举行的第二十五届“汉语桥”世界大学生中文比赛选送优秀人才，争取获得优异成绩。
比赛主题
天下一家One World, One Family
参赛对象
居住在拉脱维亚的非华裔拉脱维亚籍大学生及成人，本人及父母母语非中文。
比赛组别及报名条件
本次大学生成人组比赛根据参赛者学习汉语年限分为三个级别：
初级：在校大学生(18-30周岁)或社会成人(年龄不限), 学习汉语1年以下的学习者，去年参加过汉语桥初级组比赛的，今年不能再报名初级组，需报名中级或高级组。
中级：在校大学生(18-30周岁)或社会成人(年龄不限), 学习汉语1年以上的学习者，去年参加过汉语桥中级组比赛的，今年不能再报名中级组，需报名高级组。
高级：在校大学生(18-30周岁)或社会成人(年龄不限), 学习汉语3年以上的学习者, 以及去年参加高级组的选手。上届全球决赛选手(拉脱维亚赛区高级组冠军)原则上不可连续两届参加比赛。
比赛内容
（一）总体要求
1.自我介绍+主题演讲（时间为2-3分钟，要求脱稿）：内容涉及汉语知识、中国文化和国情知识等；
2.才艺展示：内容涉及中国歌曲、舞蹈、曲艺、乐器、书法、绘画、剪纸、武术等；参赛者也可用中华才艺展示其母语国民俗文化。
3.现场问答：内容涉及汉语语言运用能力和中华文化知识（含汉语知识、中国文化和国情知识）；

奖励办法
决赛时各小组评出一、二、三等奖（合计9名）以及优秀奖若干名；获奖者将获得奖品及证书。
大学成人(高级)组第一名（在校大学生,年龄18-30岁，即1996年1月1日到2008年12月31日出生的成人）将代表拉脱维亚前往中国参加第二十四届“汉语桥”世界大学生中文比赛；第二名（在校大学生,年龄18-30岁，即1996年1月1日到2008年12月31日出生的成人）可一同前往观摩比赛。高级组冠军有机会获得由中国中外语言交流合作中心提供的2026/2027年度为期一学期或一学年赴华进修汉语的国际中文教师奖学金及往返机票(具体奖励内容与全球总决赛名次挂钩)。但往届参赛选手不得以同一身份赴华参赛或观赛。
