Directors of Confucius Institute at Latvia University visited Daugavpils University

November 20, 2014, the Latvian side director Prof. Peteris. Pildegovics and Chinese side diretor Prof. Shang Quanyu of Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia paid a vist to Daugavpils University,which is the subordinate Chinese-teaching site of Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia. Upon arrival, the two directors met the Dean of Humanity Faculty Mrs.Maija.Burima and the Secretary of Foreign Affairs Department Mrs.Diana Soldane in local Chinese restaurant. Both sides conducted a deep conversation on Chinese teaching prospects and development planning in Daugavpils University. Since launched in September 2013, Chinese course has aroused widespread concern and strong social repercussions, Maija indicated, many citizens make calls or go to the university in person to counsel Chinese learning programs, Chinese language has been definitely very popular and has a very promising prospect.Therefore,Daugavpils University will continue to strengthen in-depth cooperation with the Confucius Institute and the School of Humanities at the University of Latvia. She stated that the University will strive to place Chinese courses into the curriculum system of Humanity Faculty, and will invite a Chinese senior teacher and a volunteer teacher at the same time to teach in the University. In this way, not only can students who attend Chinese lessons earn credits, but also accept more comprehensive Chinese language teaching and improve all aspects of capacity. Secretary of the Foreign Affairs Department,Diana.Soldane mentioned that Daugavpils University and Confucius Institute have a pleasant cooperation in all aspects since Chinese courses started a year and a half ago, she also expressed their willingness to continue deeper cooperation on behalf of the university.Prof. Peteris.Pildegovics and Prof.Shang Quanyu are in favor of their point of view, and they explained that they will contact the University of Latvia and Hanban, and provide full support on exchanges and cooperation in Daugavapils University.
After meeting with representatives of university, Prof.Peteris. Pildegovics and Prof. Shang Quanyu visited the of Foreign Language Center and held a cordial conversation with Diana Ozola,the dean of Foreign Language Center.Afterwards, they went to meet students.Firstly Professor Shang Quanyu introduced the development of the Confucius Institute all over the world, and then explained the Confucius Institute Scholarship Program, the Chinese Government Scholarship Program, Chinese Bridge Competition, winter and summer camps to encourage students to actively participate in various activities and seek opportunities to learn Chinese and feel the charm of Chinese culture and language by themselves.Prof. Peteris.Pildegovics introduced his experiences in learning Chinese and his own views on the Chinese culture and sentiment by fluent Chinese language, this is the best interpretation and proof of Chinese culture and charm. Their introductions aroused students’ interest and desire of China, students spoke up and actively exchange their opinions of Chinese economy,history and so on, which built great harmonious atmosphere for the meeting.
In addition, two directors brought and announce a stirring news,that Hanban has approved the establishment of Confucius Classroom in Daugavapils University,that means,Daugavpils University will receive financial and technical support from Hanban,the Headquarters of Confucius Institute, thus, it will access to much better teaching resources and environment. It is obviously clear that with the full support of Hanban and the Confucius Institute at the University of Latvia, Chinese language teaching Daugavpils University will develop much better and better.
