Tea Event in World Hat Museum Performed by Confucius Institute at University of Latvia
At 18:00 on 4th March, Confucius Institute at University of Latvia performed Chinese tea ceremony at the invitation of World Hat Museum in Riga.
As known to all, China is hometown to tea, and tea ritual is one of the most typical symbols of implicit and elegant Chinese culture. With curiosity for Chinese culture, about twenty residents attended this event.
At beginning, staff of museum introduced two Chinese teachers from Confucius Institute at University of Latvia who would offer tea ceremony today. Teachers started by introducing the history, kinds of tea and tea etiquette with vivid slides, which offered a cultural course for all the guests. After introduction, two teachers presented tea ceremony of oolong tea and red tea separately, and invited guests to join the tea ceremony by themselves. Every guest tasted these two kinds of tea after the tea ceremony, and felt the charm with the fragrance. Next, performer asked 6 questions about tea and tea etiquette which presented before, which made audiences rush to answer; teachers also prepared tea gifts for guests whom answered the question. At last, audiences raised many questions about tea and Chinese culture, and they got answer by experienced Chinese teachers.
Confucius Institute at University of Latvia held various cultural activities since Chinese Spring Festival. This tea event was the first time to promote culture event in local museum. After this event, many audiences said that they had desire to know further about tea and Chinese culture, and also wanted to know more about Chinese language and made Chinese friends in the future.
