The 2025 World Chinese Language Conference was grandly held in Beijing from November 14 to 16 under the theme “Innovation Leads, Digital and Intelligent Empowerment—Making Chinese Language Learning Accessible to All.” Representatives from the University of Latvia—Mr. He Dong, Director of the Confucius Institute; Ms. Agita Baltgalve, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Humanities’ Department of Asian Studies; and Ms. Karina Jermaka, President of the Chinese Alumni Association in China—were invited to attend the conference. They joined over 2,000 participants, including government officials, university presidents, Confucius Institute directors, sinologists, and Chinese language educators from more than 160 countries and regions, to discuss strategies for high-quality development in international Chinese language education.

During the opening ceremony, Ding Xuexiang, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice Premier of the State Council, delivered a keynote speech. He emphasized leveraging language exchange as a bridge to deepen mutual learning among civilizations and promote the integration of Chinese language education with digital and intelligent technologies. Reports were also presented by distinguished guests such as Ren Youqun, Vice Minister of Education; Yang Wei, Chairman of the Chinese International Chinese Language Education Foundation; Zhao Lingshan, Secretary-General of the Chinese International Chinese Language Education Foundation; and Yu Yunfeng, Director of the Center for Language Education and Cooperation. Their discussions covered topics including “Standardization in Chinese Language Education,” “Sharing Digital Teaching Resources,” and “Building International Cooperation Networks,” charting the course for the global development of Chinese language education. The Latvian delegates attentively listened and took notes, gaining profound insights into the innovative ideas conveyed at the conference. They also participated in parallel forums on topics such as HSK exam reforms and the application of digital and intelligent teaching methods, which proved highly rewarding.

The conference featured the release of several significant achievements, including the International Chinese Language Education Knowledge Graph, the adaptive Chinese learning assessment product “HSK GO,” and a multilingual digital platform for Chinese language teaching. These outcomes will provide technical support for Chinese language education in Latvia, aiding in the optimization of local teaching systems and the enhancement of learning efficiency.

The representatives noted that the conference provided a high-level platform for exchange for the Confucius Institute, facilitating access to cutting-edge international concepts and expanding cooperation channels. Moving forward, the University of Latvia Confucius Institute will actively incorporate the conference’s outcomes, gradually advancing toward digital and intelligent Chinese language teaching, upgrading HSK preparation services, and deepening linguistic and cultural exchanges between China and Latvia. These efforts aim to solidify Chinese as a robust bridge connecting the peoples of the two countries.
